Types of Galvanized Cable Trays We Supply

Perforated GI Cable Tray

The most widely used cable tray type in buildings and industrial installations. Perforations in the base and side flanges allow heat to dissipate from loaded power cables while reducing tray weight. The standard choice for power, lighting, and control cable routes in factories, commercial buildings, and substations.

Ladder Type GI Cable Tray

Galvanized ladder cable tray - two side rails connected by transverse rungs, provides maximum open area and makes laying large diameter power cables easy. The cable schedule determines how wide the tray needs to be, and the rung spacing (typically 300 mm) determines how much cable support each metre of tray provides.

Solid Bottom GI Cable Tray

A closed base design that provides mechanical protection and EMI/RFI shielding for instrumentation, signal, and data cables. Used in control rooms, data centres, and instrument cable routes where shielding matters and cable protection is a priority.

Wire Mesh GI Cable Tray

Flexible wire mesh cable tray in GI finish, the most adaptable option for tight bends, frequent direction changes, and structured cabling applications. Widely used in office buildings, data centres, and IT environments where cable routes change frequently.

Specification Guide

Pre Galvanized vs Hot Dip Galvanized, Which Do You Need?

This is the most common specification question we get. Pre galvanized trays are made from zinc coated coil steel, the zinc coating is 120, 275 g/m² and covers the flat sheet before fabrication. Cut edges and weld points are not coated. Hot dip galvanized trays are fabricated first and then dipped in molten zinc at 450°C, producing a 600 g/m² coating on every surface including weld points, internal corners, and cut edges. For outdoor, coastal, or moderately corrosive indoor environments, hot dip galvanizing is always the better choice. For dry indoor applications, pre galvanized is cost effective and adequate.

Advantages

Features and Benefits

Corrosion Protection

Hot dip galvanizing provides 25, 30 year coating life in moderate outdoor environments, the most cost effective industrial corrosion protection available.

Structural Strength

Steel cable trays handle physical impact and abuse on busy construction sites and in industrial environments where lightweight alternatives may be damaged.

Earthing Continuity

Metal tray construction enables continuous earthing bond throughout the cable run, simplifying electrical safety design.

Long Span Capability

Steel ladder trays span up to 3000 mm between supports with appropriate loading, reducing the number of support structures required.

Complete System

Full range of bends, tees, crosses, reducers, covers, brackets, and hardware from a single supplier.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Standard practice is 40% maximum fill for power cables to allow heat dissipation, and 50% for control and instrumentation cables. AMROCK's technical team helps size trays based on your cable schedule, share the cable list and we'll calculate the tray widths required at each section of your route.
Yes. Hot dip galvanized trays are suitable for outdoor industrial, coastal, and tropical installations. For aggressive coastal or chemical atmospheres where long term performance is critical, AMROCK recommends FRP cable trays as the more durable long term solution.
Yes. We supply a complete support system, wall brackets, floor stands, threaded rod hangers, channel strut, and all associated hardware in matching galvanized or stainless steel finish. Sourcing the complete system from AMROCK ensures dimensional compatibility and simplifies installation on site.
Hot dip galvanized trays are supplied in natural zinc grey. Pre galvanized trays can be powder coated in any RAL colour. Colour coding is frequently used on projects to differentiate power, instrumentation, telecom, and fire alarm cable tray runs for easy identification during installation and future maintenance.
