FRP Handrail

FRP Handrail Manufacturer in India
Fibreglass Industrial Railing Systems

Handrails on industrial platforms and walkways are a legal requirement - but the material they're made from is a choice that has real consequences. Steel handrails in corrosive environments corrode at the base of stanchion posts first, often invisibly, until a load test or an incident reveals that the structural performance has been compromised. Repainting keeps them presentable, but it doesn't stop the corrosion at the critical points. FRP handrails don't have this problem — the glass-resin composite is inert to the same environments that attack steel, and structural integrity is maintained throughout the product's service life.

At AMROCK, we manufacture complete FRP modular handrail systems - top rails, mid rails, stanchion posts, kickplates, stair rails, and safety gates — all from pultruded glass reinforced plastic. The system installs with bolted connections throughout — no welding, no grinding, no hot work permits. We supply handrail systems as complete kits for each platform section — rails cut to length, stanchion posts drilled to the platform fixing pattern, all fittings and hardware included. This simplifies site installation and eliminates the on-site cutting, drilling, and slow speed fitting

Handrails Instead

Why FRP Handrails Instead of Galvanized Steel or Stainless?

The comparison depends on the environment. In corrosive, offshore, or electrically sensitive environments, FRP has three specific advantages that matter:

Corrosion without any coating dependence

FRP is corrosion-resistant throughout its section - not just on the surface. There's no coating to fail at stanchion bases, weld points, or cut ends

Electrical non-conductivity

In areas with live electrical equipment, overhead conductors, or classified electrical hazards, a non-conductive handrail is safer. FRP meets this requirement without any additional insulating treatment

No hot work for installation or modification

Bolted modular assembly means no fire permits, no welding in potentially flammable atmospheres, and no fire risk during installation or later modifications

SYSTEM COMPONENTS

FRP Handrail System Components

Top Rail

Custom made pultruded FRP section - the continuous horizontal member at 1000 mm or 1100 mm above the platform deck that provides the primary handhold and load-bearing function. Smooth outer surface. Available in yellow (standard industrial safety colour) and grey.

Mid Rail

Horizontal FRP intermediate section at approximately 400–600 mm above deck level to prevent a person falling through the space between top rail and kickplate.

Stanchion Posts

FRP stanchion posts in 50×50 mm square or 50 mm round section, typically at 1000–1500 mm centres depending on the design load and post size. Supplied with square baseplates pre-drilled for fixing to steel or concrete decks with stainless steel anchor bolts. Post length is calculated to position the top rail at the specified height above the finished deck level.

Kickplate

100 mm high FRP flat section installed at floor level around the platform perimeter to prevent tools, equipment, and debris rolling off the edge to lower levels. A mandatory requirement in IS and OSHA for elevated work platforms.

APPLICATIONS

Where FRP Handrails Are Used

Offshore Platforms

Topsides walkways, ladderways, helideck perimeter rails, module handrails — non-magnetic, non-corrosive, fully marine atmosphere resistant

Chemical & Petrochemical Plants

Acid-resistant handrails for chemical storage platforms, reactor access, and process equipment walkways

Water Treatment Plants

Non-corroding handrails at clarifier tops, filter bed walkways, pump station platforms, and sedimentation tank surrounds

Power Generation

Non-conductive railing in and around switchgear rooms, transformer bays, and high-voltage electrical areas

Cooling Towers

Handrails in the high-humidity, warm, chlorinated atmosphere of cooling tower structures where even stainless steel can suffer crevice corrosion

Manufacturing

Manufacturing and Quality

AMROCK FRP handrail components are produced by the pultrusion process — continuous glass fibre rovings and woven roving mats are drawn through an isophthalic polyester resin bath and a precision-heated die at controlled pull speed. The resulting profiles have consistent wall thickness, glass content, and dimensional accuracy throughout their length. After pultrusion, tubes and square sections are cut to standard lengths, inspected, and packed into project-specific kits with all required fittings, hardware, and installation instructions.
